An Oscar pool makes the whole ceremony more fun for everyone in the room. Here are 5 simple tips to set one up before March 15.

Set the rules before the show. Print one ballot per person and collect all picks before 7 p.m. ET. No changing answers after the show starts.

Weight the big categories. Give 3 points each for Best Picture, Best Actress and Best Actor. All other categories are worth 1 point each. This keeps the competition tight even if someone misses the technical awards.

Add a tiebreaker question. Pick something simple before the show. A good option is guessing how long Conan O’Brien’s opening monologue runs. Whoever gets closest wins the tiebreaker.

Give a prize for last place too. A small dummy prize for the lowest score keeps everyone laughing all the way to the final award of the night.

Use two pen colors. Predictions go in black before the show. Actual winners get circled in red during the show. Scoring takes about two minutes at the end of the night.
